An Indian American doctor was arrested on Thursday for masturbating in front of a minor girl.
The FBI arrested Sudipta Mohanty for doing the deed on a flight from Hawaii to Boston in May 2022.
If found guilty, the resident of Cambridge, Massachusetts will be sentenced to 90 days in prison followed by a year of supervised release and a fine of up to $5,000.
The official FBI Boston account tweeted about the arrest. The tweet stated that Dr Mohanty was arrested for allegedly committing lewd acts within the view of a 14-year-old female seated next to him.
The teenager said that Mohanty covered himself with a blanket, pulling it up to his neck. She said that she later saw his leg bouncing up and down.
Later, the blanket slipped revealing that Mohanty's pants were unzipped, exposing his genitals. During the incident, Mohanty was seated next to a female companion, who was sleeping with her head on his shoulder.
The girl, who was "disgusted and very uncomfortable", was promptly moved to a different seat.
The 14-year-old was travelling with her grandparents, who were seated nearby.
