India continued its strong run at the 2026 Asian Games as the women’s compound archery team successfully defended its gold medal in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on Wednesday. The Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Thaniparthi and Prithika Pradeep defeated China 238-234 in the final to secure the top position.
The Indian team also matched the world and Asian record of 238 points, originally set by South Korea in 2014. India had earlier defeated South Korea 234-233 in a closely fought semi-final. The team’s latest victory means India has won a medal in the women’s compound team event at every Asian Games since the discipline was introduced in 2014.
The gold medal also marked a successful defence of India’s title from the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games. Jyothi Surekha Vennam has now been part of all four of India’s medal-winning campaigns in this event — bronze in 2014, silver in 2018 and gold in 2023 and 2026.
With this victory, India moved to seventh gold medal of the 2026 Asian Games at that point and climbed to ninth position in the overall medal standings.
