PM Narendra Modi Arrives in Kochi, Applauds ‘Keralam’ Renaming; Unveils Development Projects Worth ₹16,450 Crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday arrived in Kochi, Kerala, where he praised the state government’s decision to rename Kerala as “Keralam”, calling it a move that reflects the region’s cultural identity and linguistic heritage.

During his visit, the Prime Minister is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for multiple development projects worth Rs.16,450 crore, aimed at boosting infrastructure, connectivity and economic growth in the state. Addressing a gathering after his arrival, Modi said the name Keralam is deeply rooted in the state’s history and tradition and represents the spirit of its people.

The projects to be launched during the visit span across key sectors including ports, shipping, railways, energy and urban infrastructure. Officials said these initiatives are expected to significantly strengthen Kerala’s logistics network, improve transportation facilities and generate employment opportunities in the region.

The Prime Minister’s visit to Kochi is also seen as politically significant, coming at a time when development and cultural identity are key themes in national and regional politics. Local authorities made extensive security and logistical arrangements for the visit, with large crowds gathering to witness the launch of the major projects and hear the Prime Minister’s address.
