Gujarat is steadily strengthening its electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure as part of efforts to reduce dependence on petrol and diesel and encourage cleaner mobility. The state currently ranks 8th in India with 2,789 EV charging stations. As of July 2026, India has a total 52,716 EV charging stations.
According to the available figures, Maharashtra leads the country with 6,985 EV charging stations, followed by Karnataka with 6,805 stations. Gujarat’s growing charging network is expected to make EV ownership more convenient and support the state’s transition towards sustainable transportation.
The Gujarat government has been continuously promoting EV adoption through policy support, incentives and subsidies, aimed at encouraging both consumers and businesses to shift towards electric mobility.The state is also looking to expand EV charging infrastructure in major tourism destinations, including Gir, Somnath, Ambaji and the Statue of Unity. Developing charging facilities at these high-footfall locations could make it easier for tourists travelling in electric vehicles and further promote green tourism.
With the expansion of charging stations and continued government support, Gujarat is seeking to create a stronger EV ecosystem while contributing to lower fuel consumption, reduced emissions and cleaner transportation across the state.
