Western railway felicitates it's Olympians as all four players promoted to the Gazetted Rank

Alok Kansal – General Manager of Western Railway & Patron Western Railway Sports Association (WRSA) felicitated Navneet Kaur, Deep Grace Ekka(absentia), Amit Rohidas & Nilakanta Das, the sportspersons of Western Railway who represented the Indian Women's & Men's Hockey teams respectively at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Shreya Saksena, Rifle Shooter and Silver medalist at the ISSF World Championship was also felicitated for her accomplishment.

Recently, a ceremony to honour these eminent sports personalities of WR was held at Mahalaxmi Sports Complex. Tanuja Kansal – President of Western Railway Women's Welfare Organisation (WRWWO) also applauded & felicitated the sportspersons for their splendid performance.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur – Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, GM Kansal appreciated the stupendous performance of the Hockey players who with their grit and determination has brought laurels not only to India but also to Indian Railways. In his address, he stated that the podium win for India in Men's Hockey at the Olympics is after a gap of 41 years and the entire nation is proud of them! Similarly, the women's team also gave a splendid performance and reached the semifinals with their outstanding play.

Kansal, reiterated the words & mentioned about PM's desire that every Olympian must visit 75 schools to play & teach sports to the children as well as spread awareness about the importance of good diet inorder to remain fit & healthy. They have become an inspiration to the youths of our country to pursue sports.

In appreciation of their achievement and as an incentive, WR has promoted all the four Olympians to the Gazetted rank as OSD/Sports. Shreya Saksena, an eminent rifle shooter is another promising sportsperson of Western Railway who recently won the silver medal at the ISSF World Championship held at New Delhi. She was overjoyed with the felicitation conferred upon her by GM WR and President WRWWO. Thereafter, GM interacted with the Olympians and asked them to share their experiences on and off the field at the Tokyo Olympics.

Speaking on the occasion, Tanuja Kansal – President WRWWO mentioned that it is the sheer hardwork & determination of these athletes which has led to their success. She also spoke about how women sportspersons have carved a place for themselves despite the many challenges they may face.

Kansal participated in the Fit India Freedom Run 2.0 at Mahalaxmi Sports Ground along with President & members of WRWWO, Principal Head of Departments, railway officials, sportspersons including eminent legends of WR, Padma Shri Diana Edulji (Cricket), Ex Hockey Players & Olympians Shri Gurbux Singh & Ms Selma D'Silva. The Freedom Run based on the theme "Fitness Ki Dose, Aadha Ghanta Roz" is a part of the "Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav" celebrations.
