Indian Coast Guard conducts "Maritime Search and Rescue Workshop" on 19 August 2021 at Indian Coast Guard District Headquarters No 15, Okha in order to implement various initiatives towards comprehensive preparedness, capacity building, greater cohesiveness and collaboration among various stakeholders.

ND Bhetariya, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Devbhumi Dwaraka was the Guest of Honour for the event. Officials from Indian Navy, State Administration, representatives of fishing community, Indian National Centre for Information Services, Gujarat Maritime Board and VTMS Okha also participated in the workshop.

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) is the nodal agency for Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR) in Indian Search and Rescue Region (ISRR). Such workshops are conducted under the provisions of National M-SAR manual and the Director General Indian Coast Guard is the Chairman of National M-SAR Board.

The event was conducted with the aim to create awareness amongst fishing community and sea farers about various safety measures and assistance to distressed individuals at sea. Also, presentation on "Technological innovation in SAR, Use of Autonomous Vessels and Artificial Intelligent, Trends in satellite SAR technology" were also organised.
