Cracked heels are a common skin problem that can occur throughout the year. Dry skin, thickened skin around the heel and pressure on the feet can cause painful cracks.A simple home-care routine using warm water, gentle exfoliation, aloe vera gel and oil.

The suggested method is to soak the feet in lukewarm water for around 10–15 minutes and then gently remove loose, dry skin with a foot file. After drying the feet, apply a mixture of aloe vera gel with a few drops of olive or coconut oil to the heels. Wearing cotton socks overnight can help keep the moisturizing mixture in place.

However, aloe vera should not be presented as a proven cure for cracked heels. Medical guidance strongly supports regular moisturization, particularly products containing ingredients such as urea, salicylic acid or alpha-hydroxy acids, and petroleum jelly can be useful at night.  Evidence specifically supporting aloe vera for wound healing remains limited.

If the cracks are deep, bleeding, very painful, infected, or not improving, medical advice is recommended. People with diabetes should be particularly careful because cracked heels can develop into more serious foot problems.
