The Public Relations Cell at the Gujarat DGP Office in Gandhinagar has emerged as a direct channel for citizens seeking police intervention in their grievances. According to a report published on September 28, 2026, the centre, which began functioning on February 4, has received around 310 in-person representations from people across Gujarat, including remote areas of Kutch, Saurashtra and tribal regions of South Gujarat.
The cell operates under the guidance and monitoring of Gujarat Police Chief Gyanendra Singh Malik and Law and Order DGP Rajkumar Pandian. Complaints are registered under a standard operating procedure, following which the team coordinates with senior police officials in the concerned district or city. Rather than simply forwarding applications, officials examine the facts and evidence before deciding on further action.
In serious cases where the complaints were found to be supported by facts and evidence, 28 FIRs were registered through the concerned police stations. The cell also sought progress reports in around 67 cases to monitor their status and ensure follow-up. At the same time, legal action was taken against eight applicants whose representations were found during investigation to be false or malicious.
The centre also collects feedback from visitors regarding the way their complaints are handled. The report says citizens have praised the staff for their courteous behaviour, attentive hearing, prompt action and guidance. The initiative is aimed at making senior-level police grievance redressal more accessible to citizens, including those travelling from Gujarat’s distant and rural areas.
