BJP Takes Early Lead in West Bengal Assembly Election 2026, TMC Trails
The results of the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026 are being closely watched as counting progresses across the state. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has started releasing constituency-wise trends, with early numbers indicating that the BJP is leading in more than 150 seats, while the TMC is trailing but still maintaining a strong presence.
Out of the total 294 assembly constituencies, results for 293 seats are being declared today. The Falta constituency will undergo re-polling in 285 booths on May 21, and its counting will take place on May 24.
The elections were conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29. The polling process witnessed intense political campaigning, voter turnout, and post-poll tensions, including allegations of EVM tampering and strongroom security concerns raised by various political parties.
Pre-election surveys had predicted a closely contested battle between BJP and TMC, with many exit polls suggesting that no single party would easily cross the majority mark of 148 seats. However, the early trends seem to indicate a shift in voter preference, putting BJP in a stronger position.
Political analysts believe that the final outcome will depend on rural versus urban voting patterns and late counting rounds. Meanwhile, security has been tightened across counting centers to ensure a smooth and transparent process.
As the counting continues, the final results will determine whether BJP can secure a decisive victory in the state or if TMC can recover and retain power under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.
