The US has asked Iran to stop sending weapons to Russia to kill Ukrainians. This comes amid claims from Ukrainian president Vlodomyr Zelensky that Russia used 400 Iranian 'Shahed 136' drones against Ukrainian civilians.
Adding that Moscow may be advising Tehran on "the best practices to manage protests," the White House secretary also rubbished the Russian denials of sourcing weapons from Iran to attack Ukraine.
Jean-Pierre's statement comes as Iran is facing its biggest-ever protest over the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, which Tehran alleges is fuelled by the US. Despite strict crackdowns, the protest continues to rage.
On Wednesday, Iranian security forces opened fire on protesters who massed in their thousands in Mahsa Amini's hometown to mark 40 days since her death, alleged a human rights group.
Meanwhile, Zelensky has claimed that Kremlin used 400 Iranian-made 'Shahed-136' kamikaze drones in multiple explosions that took place in Kyiv and targeted the country's civilian population, reported ANI quoting Kyiv Independent.
Russia had been firing rockets and drones at Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, in recent weeks in retaliation for the explosion on the Crimean bridge.
Ukraine had since been pleading with Western countries to step up their assistance in the face of the new challenge.
