Pediatrics Department of Sayaji Hospital continues the medical miracle tradition of treating corona

Involved in challenging treatments of children infected with the virus

The current second wave of corona is characterized by an increase in infections among newborns and other young children. And the root are coming from elders as children are infected after their parents tested positive for the virus.

The pediatric ward of Sayaji Hospital is known for its effective treatment of children. Along with the proper system of treatment the department also maintains and promotes the tradition of medical miracle in the treatment of children suffering from corona.

Appropriate treatment has been given to 25 covid infected children including 6 newborns in this department and about 23 children have been given new life by this department. The lives of two children cannot be saved despite the best efforts due to the complexity of different types of co-morbidity.

Currently, a pregnant mother who gave birth to a baby in the gynecology department are undergoing treatment for covid infection.
Giving information about this, the head of the pediatrics department, Dr. Sheila Iyer said the mother gave birth to the baby about a few days ago and after going home both the mother and the baby are infected and being treated in their department for covid. The child is now in stable condition, especially after treatment for fever, cough and shortness of breath. The mother also is kept with the baby wearing a PPE kit to breastfed.

Newborns and other children in particular seem to be infected at home by adults, so it is important to take care to keep children away from them and free of the infection.

Similarly, a child suffering from Kidney and Chronic Kidney Disease from birth in Chhotaudepur district is also undergoing challenging treatment in this department.
The case becomes more complicated when the kidneys are weakened due to corona infection. That is why this child is being given the necessary treatment including oxygen.

So when the baby is small and the mother is infected, she should take care to wear a mask, shield and keep the baby at a safe distance. In the last one month or so, 70 children tested positive for 150 OPD in this department and 25 of them needed admission treatment. While 70 to 80 percent of children have been treated under home quarantine.

Another child with corona has large abscesses in the liver, adding a double challenge to treatment. The relief is that the corona infection did not have a major effect on the baby's lungs and other organs. He is being given the necessary treatment of corona including surgical drainage for the liver.

Dr. Sheela states that children with a variety of co-morbidities can quickly become infected with corona. Therefore, if the child is currently anemic, malnourished, has long-term kidney disease, and the child is immunocompromised for various reasons, it is very important to take proper care to prevent the infection as the treatment of such children becomes very complicated.

Shilpa Panchal, the mother of a newborn baby and Champa, the mother of a child with a kidney, have expressed satisfaction over the excellent treatment being given to their loved ones.

Children's organs are small and underdeveloped. This means that in pediatric diseases, delicate treatment has to be given by combining a lot of skills, knowledge and experience. Corona infection poses a challenge to pediatric treatment, but the entire team of Sayaji’s Pediatrics Department is successfully tackling the challenge of Child Corona through their knowledge, skills and dedication to healing children.
