An unusual roadside market operating from luxury cars on Ahmedabad’s Science City Road has been cleared by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). The civic body carried out an anti-encroachment drive on Friday, October 2, after the activity began creating traffic and pedestrian movement problems.
For around six months, people had been using high-end cars, including Audi and BMW vehicles, as temporary shops along the road. They were selling a variety of products such as chaniya cholis, jewellery, perfumes, cakes, chocolates and other items, especially during the Navratri season. The market had reportedly gained popularity through social media and WhatsApp groups, where customers were invited to visit the roadside location.
However, the growing number of parked vehicles and customers started causing obstruction on the road and footpaths. Taking note of the situation, AMC officials arrived with trucks and removed the roadside sales arrangements, clearing the area.
Unlike traditional roadside vendors who use carts or stalls, this market had a different approach, with sellers turning their personal luxury vehicles into mobile shops. Following the drive, AMC and police are expected to keep a regular watch on the Science City Road to prevent the encroachments from returning and to ensure smooth traffic movement.
