MBBS Students Accused of Beating Patient at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur

A disturbing incident has come to light from BRD Medical College, where MBBS students allegedly assaulted a patient undergoing treatment in the mental health ward. The incident reportedly took place on April 19 near the Sarojini Hostel on the college campus.

According to available information, the patient, said to be mentally unstable and undergoing treatment, wandered out of his ward and reached near the hostel area. During this time, he allegedly made an objectionable remark about the clothing of a female student passing by. Angered by the comment, the student reportedly called her fellow MBBS students to the spot.

Within a short time, a group of students allegedly gathered and physically assaulted the patient outside the hostel premises. Eyewitness accounts suggest that the situation escalated quickly, despite repeated pleas from the patient’s wife, who was present at the scene and continuously requested the students to spare her husband, stating that he was not mentally stable.

The patient’s wife also recorded a video of the incident. It is further alleged that some students later entered the ward and pressured her to delete the video. Following the incident, hospital security personnel intervened, rescued the patient, and admitted him back to the ward.

After receiving information, the Principal Medical Superintendent reached the spot and managed to bring the situation under control. Meanwhile, Gulriha Police Station officials stated that no formal written complaint has been received so far, though the matter has raised serious concerns regarding student conduct and patient safety within medical institutions.

The incident has sparked outrage and calls for strict action, with questions being raised about discipline, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable patients in healthcare facilities.
