Veteran actor Satish Kaul who played the role of Lord Indra in the TV show Mahabharat, passed away due to COVID-19-related complications on Saturday in Ludhiana, according to reports. He was 74.

“He had fever for the last five-six days and wasn’t keeping well. So, on Thursday, we admitted him to Shri Rama Charitable Hospital here and then we learnt he had tested positive for coronavirus,” the sources quoted his sister Satya Devi as saying.

A graduate of the Film and Television Institute of India’s (FTII) 1969 batch, Kaul has also acted in over 300 Punjabi and Hindi films. Besides B.R. Chopra’s iconic show Mahabharat, he has also featured in Vikram Aur Betaal.

In May last year, he had said he was financial issues and that lockdown has made the situation worse. “I’m struggling for medicines, groceries and basic needs. I appeal to the industry people to help me. I got so much love as an actor, I need some attention now as a human in need,” he had said. Kaul had moved to Punjab from Mumbai and had started an acting school around 2011. The actor had said that project wasn’t a success.
