Akshay Kumar’s period drama Prithviraj has received a threat from the Karni Sena over its title. Directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, it is the biopic of emperor Prithviraj Chauhan.
The Karni Sena has warned of a similar situation as that of Sanjey Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat, if the film’s team does not consider their conditions. In an elaborate Instagram post in Hindi, Karni Sena youth wing president Surjeet Singh Rathore, listed three conditions for the Prithviraj team.
He demanded that the film be ‘screened’ before theatrical release, the film be shown to the Rajput society, and the film be renamed as ‘Veer Yoddha Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan’.
He further warns the team of repercussions if the conditions are not met, and adds that Rajputs all over the country will step on to the streets in protest. He concluded that post by adding that Yash Raj Films, that is producing the biopic, will be responsible for the situation.
In another post, he added that the country and world should be shown Emperor Prithviraj Chauhan’s life through this film.
Announching the film in 2019, Akshay had said: “Elated to share about my 1st historical film on my birthday!Humbled to have the opportunity to play a hero I look up to for his valor & values- Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan in one of my biggest films #Prithviraj.”
