Western Railway conducted regular checks from April 2021 to September 2021 wherein about 4.79 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travel including unbooked luggage cases were detected, resulting in recovery of Rs. 24.60 crore.

According to a press release issued by Sumit Thakur - Chief Public Relations Officer of W. Rly, during the period, 3 cases of transfer of reserved tickets were detected and Rs. 4,580/- was realized. Besides this, 213 beggars & 352 unauthorized hawkers were apprehended, out of which, 85 were charged and an amount of Rs. 31,585/- was realized as Railway dues. 267 persons were prosecuted & fined from which Rs. 1,0,670/- were recovered in fine.

As per state govt. directives, Ticket Checking Staff are vested with the power to charge fine from passengers travelling without mask. As a result of this, 8,914 cases of passengers without mask were detected during the period from 17th April, 2021 to 30th September, 2021 & an amount of Rs.17,48,445/- recovered as fine from them.

Thakur stated that Western Railway has appealed to the general public that except for categories as identified by the State Government and as approved by Ministry of Railways, others are requested not to rush to the stations. Also, all permitted categories of passengers to travel with proper and valid tickets & should carry valid Identity cards in order to avoid inconvenience and always travel with mask. It is also requested that travelers should follow proper medical and social protocols as mandated for COVID-19.
