Successful cardiothoracic and transplant surgeon Dr K R Balakrishnan Chairman - Director - Institute of Heart and Lung Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support at MGM Health care Chennai officially launch, state of art clinical services for Lung & Heart Transplant at Baroda.

Dr. Arpan Shah -Medical Director & Pulmonologist at Pranayam Lung and Heart Institute said with expertise of Dr K R Balakrishnan who has performed more than 500 heart & lung transplant surgeries will allow residents of Baroda and adjoining areas to access expert health care facilities under one roof.

With help of extensive experience & clinical expertise of team members from both institutes including Dr Suresh Rao KG, Dr Prakash Ludhani and Dr Soumitra Sinha Roy from MGM Chennai & Dr C M Shah, Dr Umang Shah & Dr Vihang Shah from Pranayam Lung & Heart Institute, this association can prove to be a boon for the city.

The team also suggested the need for Government organizations and NGOs to step up awareness campaigns around organ donations. In India, there is a wide gap between the demand and supply of organs. Annually, lakh people die waiting for a transplant which can be attributed to improper infrastructure, lack of willingness and most importantly, ignorance about the process.

"As per team, awareness Campaigns around organ donation are gaining momentum, but the concerns about lack of organ transplant infrastructure in rural areas should be addressed, especially in a country where 67 per cent of the total population is based out of rural areas. This unprecedented covid times have made us all realize how important it Is for all of us to find more ways and means to save human lives. This is our humble attempt to make a small difference in developing this awareness. By donating an organ, you can save up to nine lives, " Said Dr. Balakrishnan.
