Another expressway is being built in Uttar Pradesh. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has recruited a consultant to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) for the 500-kilometer Gorakhpur-Shamli expressway, according to Hindustan Times' sister publication Livehindustan.

Only until the DPR is completed will the proposed expressway's final path be revealed. It will, however, traverse through 20 districts, including Sant Kabirnagar, Basti, and Siddharth Nagar, according to Livehindustan.

According to Livehindustan, this will be the third expressway to begin from Gorakhpur. In the region, a connector expressway connecting the Purvanchal Expressway is now being built. According to Livehindustan, 40% of the work on this connection road has been finished. It goes on to say that a DPR is being created for a new 519-kilometer road between Gorakhpur and Siliguri in West Bengal.

Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh's chief minister, recently stated that the number of expressways in the state has expanded dramatically in recent years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the foundation stone for the Ganga Expressway at a ceremony in Shajahanpur.

He claimed that just one expressway was built in the state from 1947 to 2017, but that six expressways have been built since then.

The 594-kilometer Ganga Expressway is projected to be Uttar Pradesh's longest expressway. It will cost Rs 36,200 crore to construct.

The Ganga Expressway will go from Meerut's Bijauli village to Prayagraj's Judapur Dandu village, passing through Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, and Pratapgarh.

In Shahjahanpur, the road would have a 3.5-kilometer-long airstrip to aid emergency take-off and landing of Air Force planes.

The Ganga Expressway is expected to cut the time it takes to travel from Delhi to Prayagraj in half. It was approved on November 26, 2020, and it is expected to be operational by 2024.
