Incident Details

While on patrol, the Ankleshwar GIDC police received intelligence about a suspicious transportation of copper cables in a Bolero pickup. Acting swiftly, the police set up a checkpoint and intercepted the vehicle.

Upon inspection, the police found a large quantity of copper cables loaded in the pickup. The suspects, identified as Deepak Ishwarji Thakor and Vishal Rameshbhai Patni, were unable to provide valid documents or a bill of purchase for the copper cables.

Legal Action & Seizure

Based on their failure to provide proper documentation, the police suspected that the 2520 kg of copper wire had been obtained fraudulently. Consequently, the authorities seized the scrap along with the vehicle under Section 106 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 35 (1) E of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS).

Investigation Underway

The total confiscated property, amounting to Rs. 17.14 lakh, has been taken into police custody, and further investigation is ongoing to determine the origin and legality of the copper cables.

Authorities are now probing whether the seized material is linked to any recent thefts and whether the accused are part of a larger syndicate involved in illegal scrap trading.

The Ankleshwar GIDC police have urged anyone with information regarding stolen copper cables to come forward and assist in the investigation.
