The investigations were conducted as complaints were received regarding the unauthorised use and encroachment on conditionally allocated ‘Shri Sarkar’ land for several years.

Following the investigation and hearings, the ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS) company was fined by the Mamlatdar.

Investigations had revealed that AM/NS had encroached on approximately 630,000 square meters of government land, covering 10 to 15 different land parcel numbers. Consequently, a notice was issued to AM/NS, instructing them to present relevant documents as evidence.

According to sources, Essar Steel had originally built a steel plant and the Nand Niketan Township on this land in 1990.

However, since AM/NS now owns the property, the Choryasi Mamlatdar completed the hearing and imposed a fine of ₹106 crore for encroachment, with a 90-day deadline for payment.

Failure to comply could result in the confiscation of the property, as per the official order.
