As Navratri approaches, cyber fraudsters are finding new ways to target people looking for free Garba passes. Police and cyber experts have warned that fake offers, messages and links promising complimentary passes could be used to steal personal and financial information.
Fraudsters may share attractive messages on social media or messaging apps claiming to offer free Garba passes. The message may contain a link asking users to register, provide personal details or download an application. In some cases, victims may be asked to make a small payment to confirm their pass.
Cyber criminals can use such information or malicious applications to gain access to sensitive data, banking details and one-time passwords. A seemingly harmless offer for a free Garba pass could therefore turn into a major financial loss.
People are advised to verify Garba events and pass only through official websites or verified social media accounts. They should avoid clicking on unknown links, downloading APK files sent through messages or sharing OTPs, UPI PINs, card details or banking information with anyone.
With Navratri attracting large crowds and huge interest in Garba events, cyber criminals are expected to exploit the excitement around the festival. If a free pass offer looks too good to be true, it is better to verify it before clicking.
