Gujarat Weather Update: Temperature to Drop 2–3°C, Heat Above 40°C Continues

Citizens across Gujarat are likely to get partial relief from the intense heat as temperatures are forecast to drop by 2–3°C starting today. The recent spell of extreme heat had pushed temperatures in several cities to alarming levels between 42°C and 44°C, making daily life difficult, especially during peak afternoon hours.

According to the India Meteorological Department, a shift in wind patterns is bringing some comfort. Winds blowing from the southwest to west direction, combined with increased humidity, are expected to slightly reduce the intensity of the heat.

In the past 24 hours, temperatures have already dipped by 1–2°C in many areas. However, cities like Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and others continue to record temperatures exceeding 40°C, indicating that the heatwave conditions are not completely over.

Weather officials have also confirmed that conditions will remain dry for the next seven days, with no rainfall expected. Wind speeds are likely to range between 15 to 20 km/h, which may provide slight comfort but not significant cooling.

Historically, Gujarat has experienced extreme temperatures, with record highs of 48°C in Ahmedabad and 48.4°C in Kandla recorded in May 2016. As the state moves into May — typically the hottest month — there is a possibility that temperatures could again approach 45°C or higher.

While the short-term dip in temperature offers temporary relief, meteorologists warn that heatwave conditions could intensify again in the coming days.
