Historic Heat Hits Gujarat: Diu Records Century-High Temperature While 45°C Warning Looms
A brutal heatwave has tightened its grip across Gujarat, with temperatures threatening to touch 45°C in the coming days and authorities sounding multiple alerts.
The India Meteorological Department has issued red alerts for Rajkot and Surendranagar, warning of dangerously high temperatures, while orange alerts have been declared in at least 10 other districts. Cities across the Saurashtra–Kutch belt and north Gujarat are already sizzling past 40°C, turning the region into one of the hottest zones in the country.
Adding to the alarm, the coastal territory of Diu has reportedly shattered a 100-year temperature record for early March, highlighting the intensity of the heatwave. Meteorologists warn that dry winds and scorching conditions could further intensify the heat over the next two days, pushing daily life into survival mode.
Authorities have urged residents to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, remain hydrated, and activate emergency heat-action plans to protect the elderly, children, and other vulnerable groups as the state braces for a punishing spell of extreme summer heat.
