The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is set to unveil the updated textbooks for grades 3rd and 6th in April and May respectively, as per the new syllabus.

In light of this, the council urges parents and students to remain patient and reassured.

This decision aligns with the recent directive from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), which mandated affiliated schools to adopt the new syllabi and textbooks for these classes starting from the 2024-25 academic session.

NCERT assures its commitment to timely provision of school books, with approximately 33 lakh books for grades 1st, 2nd, 7th, 8th, 10th and 12th already printed and distributed to bookstores.

Books for grades 3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th and 11th are slated to hit the market this month, while those for grade 6th will follow in May.

The decision to release textbooks for these two classes under the updated syllabus stems from the recognition that grade 3rd marks the preparatory phase and grade 6th marks the transition into the middle stages of education.

This revamp aims to ensure alignment with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE).

In facilitating a smooth transition, NCERT has devised a ‘bridge programme’ for grade 6th and provided ‘brief guidelines’ for grade 3rd, catering to schools affiliated with CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).
