McDonald's registers trademarks in the metaverse for virtual restaurants
New Update

The world's largest fast-food restaurant business has filed trademarks to open a location in the metaverse, according to the Daily Mail. According to the study, McDonald's, which has over 39,000 stores in over 100 countries, claims to be able to deliver food both in person and online.

The corporation filed ten trademark applications for the McDonald's and McCafe brands with the US Patent and Trademark Office earlier this month.

They are for "virtual food and beverage products," according to the trademarks.

"Operating a virtual restaurant online featuring home delivery," according to another.

Other brand offshoots such as entertainment and events using the McDonald`s and McCafe names have been trademarked and include "online actual and virtual concerts", the report said.

"You are hanging out in the metaverse and get hungry. You don`t have to put down your headset. You walk into a McDonald`s and place an order. It arrives at your door a little while later," trademark lawyer Josh Gerben, tweeted together with descriptions of the trademarks.

The US Patent and Trademark Office is expected to approve the request in about eight months.

"I think you`re going to see every brand that you can think of make these filings within the next 12 months," Gerben told Forbes.

"I don`t think anyone wants to be the next Blockbuster and just completely ignore a new technology that`s coming."

Facebook's metaverse realm, Horizon Worlds, has already launched, while Microsoft aims to launch a metaverse version of its Teams programme soon.

Smaller businesses can also participate by purchasing their own space on ready-made metaverse platforms like Sandbox, Decentraland, and Mirandus, according to the paper.

Many people are doing so now to establish their claim before figuring out how to exploit this new technology to their advantage.
