Surat Youth Booked After Recording Voting Video Inside Booth and Sharing It on Social Media
Police in Surat have registered a case against a YOUTH from the Sarthana area for allegedly violating election rules by recording a video inside a polling booth during the Surat Municipal Corporation elections 2026. The incident occurred on April 26 when voting was underway across the city. According to officials, the YOUTH entered the voting compartment with a mobile phone, filmed himself casting his vote, and later uploaded the video on social media, where it quickly went viral.
Election guidelines strictly prohibit the use of mobile phones or recording devices inside polling booths to maintain the secrecy and integrity of the voting process. Upon noticing the viral video, authorities initiated an investigation, following which the police registered an offence and began legal proceedings against the accused.
Officials have reiterated that any attempt to record or share voting-related content from inside polling stations is a serious violation of election laws and can lead to strict action. The case serves as a warning to others to adhere to rules during elections and respect the confidentiality of the democratic process.
