The Congress has delivered a major political shock in Rajasthan by defeating the BJP in Jhalawar Municipal Council, an area considered a stronghold of former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje. Congress won 29 of the 45 wards, while the BJP managed to win only 16 wards.
The result is significant because Jhalawar has long been closely associated with Vasundhara Raje and the BJP. Raje has maintained a strong political base in the region for many years. Her Jhalrapatan Assembly constituency, which is part of the Jhalawar area, has remained a BJP stronghold, with Raje winning the seat by more than 53,000 votes in the 2023 Assembly election.
The Congress victory in the municipal election therefore comes as a major setback for the BJP in its traditional base.
