BRICS leaders have adopted the New Delhi Declaration at the BRICS Summit in New Delhi. The declaration focuses on global peace, economic cooperation and reforms in international institutions. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that all BRICS members had agreed to the joint declaration.
One of the major points is the push to increase the use of local currencies in trade between BRICS countries. The group wants to reduce dependence on the US dollar for international transactions. The declaration also raised concerns about rising tariffs and trade restrictions, saying they could affect global trade, supply chains and developing economies.
The BRICS countries also called for greater representation of developing nations from Africa, Asia and Latin America in the United Nations Security Council. China and Russia supported the demand for India and Brazil to have a greater role at the UN. The declaration also condemned terrorism and strongly criticised attacks on civilians and acts of violence, while calling for peaceful solutions to ongoing conflicts.
