Two young men in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra reportedly fell ill after taking an injection meant for animals before participating in a running competition. The incident happened during a race organised on the Kheragarh-Saiyan road, where young people from around 12 nearby villages had gathered to take part.
According to reports, the two youths from Ayela village took an animal injection in the hope of improving their performance in the race. Soon after taking the injection, they started feeling unwell. They reportedly experienced anxiety, restlessness, muscle stiffness and unusual physical movements. Local people quickly took them to a Community Health Centre, where doctors treated them and kept them under observation. Their condition improved after around two hours.
The incident has raised concerns about the unsafe use of medicines and injections by young people looking for quick results in sports. Doctors have warned that medicines made for animals should never be used by humans without medical advice. Such injections can cause serious side effects, including changes in heart rate and blood pressure, anxiety, muscle problems and, in severe cases, unconsciousness.
