The Maharaja Sayajirao University Baroda (MSU Baroda) appeared in the SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2021. MSU Baroda secured 41st position in the list of Indian Universities. It was placed 64th in the Research category, 12th in the Innovation category and 24th in the Societal Impact category.

The SIR report is published by the Spain based research organization SCImago Research group since 2009. It publishes international ranking of worldwide research institutions, the SIR World Report every year.

The ranking is based mainly on the research output of the institution/university. Ranking criteria are Research (50%), Innovation (30%) and Societal Impact (20%). The ranking metrics includes citation of research publications, contribution of researchers from the institution, number of publications, international collaboration, quality of the publications, patents.

MSU Baroda was placed at 60th Position in 2020. It also improved its world ranking also from 768 in 2020 to 751 in 2021.
