Bluesky update adds support for 3 minute videos, new inbox for DMs and more

Bluesky, the decentralised social media platform that emerged as a project under Jack Dorsey’s Twitter recently announced that users can now upload videos up to three minutes in length.

The new video length limit brings the social media platform in line with its competitors like X and Threads.

To give you a quick recap, free X users can upload videos that are up to two minutes and 20 seconds long while Threads restricts videos up to five minutes in length.

This is a welcome move for apps like Bluescreen and Skylight, two apps that aim to use Bluesky’s AP protocol and be the TikTok for Bluesky.

Apart from the extended video time limit, the decentralised app is also adding a new “Chat requests” feature, which, as the name suggests, lets you choose whether you want to accept or reject a DM from a stranger.

Also, Bluesky users can now mute accounts by simply clicking on the three dot menu on a post and tapping the “Mute account” option.

In a post, the app developers also said that with the Bluesky 1.99 app update, they have improved support for tablet-size layouts on the web and made improvements to error reporting during the signup process.
