In a landmark move under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic reforms, India is considering significant tax cuts on small cars and insurance premiums as part of a broader overhaul of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) structure, according to a senior government official.
"Finance Ministry proposes two-slab GST with major tax cuts by Diwali, following PM Modi’s pledge of relief for common man and small businesses."
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma defended the GST in response to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s repeated criticism of the GST regime, particularly his description of it as “Gabbar Singh Tax”.
The Central GST collection stood at Rs 33,821 crore, State GST at Rs 41,864 crore, Integrated IGST at Rs 99,111 crore and cess at Rs 12,550 crore during the month.
All the traders involved were found to be holding substantial quantities of unaccounted stock and were conducting numerous unbilled transactions.
The company has received a communication/demand order for interest and penalty from the Additional Commissioner, Central Goods & Service Tax, Gandhinagar on January 3, 2024
