SWAC celebrates 87TH Air Force Day at Statue of Unity

The cycling expedition consists of Air Warriors from various commands was flagged-in by Air Marshal SK Ghotia VSM, Air Officer Commanding in Chief, South Western Air Command at the ‘STATUE OF UNITY’ on Air Force Day 08 Oct 2019. The contingent was flagged off on 07 Oct 19 from Vayu Shakti Nagar, Gandhinagar and was organised to spread the message of keeping fit and mentally agile.

From a humble beginning on 08 Oct 1932, the Indian Air Force has grown into a formidable force being the fourth largest Air force in the world to reckon with. Alongside achieving core competency in professional excellence, the IAF, also promotes all air warriors to undertake and participate in various adventure activities.

In his address, the Air Marshal lauded the participants on their personal achievement of cycling such a large distance in just two days which is a testimony of their endurance, stamina and their sprit of attaining the goal. He affirmed that taking such calculated risks during adventurous activities forms an essential part of military training ethos. Later he felicitated all the participants.

He exhorted that cycling affords opportunity to personnel to participate in a totally eco-friendly adventure which makes it extremely relevant to our modern times of climate change. He further highlighted that cycling gives an opportunity to the personnel to test their endurance and stamina and boosts the morale and spirit-de-corps.

Further, he stated that Indian Air Force has been promoting adventure activities for its personnel at different levels and has achieved various feats at National and International levels. Through adventure activities, IAF attempts to showcase and instil the qualities of camaraderie, team spirit and courage which are the very foundation of a fighting force.
