In Tennis, India’s Yuki Bhambri and his French partner Albano Olivetti defeated the third-seeded British duo of Lloyd Glasspool and Julian Cash to reach the Men’s Doubles semifinals of the ASB Classic at Auckland in New Zealand today.
The Indo-French pairing staged a come-from-behind victory in a closely contested three-set match, winning with scores of 3-6, 6-4, and 12-10 after losing the opening set in the tournament’s quarterfinal.
The match began with both pairs holding serve efficiently, giving away no breakpoints.
However, in the eighth game, the British pair secured a crucial break and closed out the set in the following game.
The second set followed a similar pattern, with both pairs showcasing exceptional serving skills. It seemed destined for a tie-breaker until the Indo-French duo secured their first break in the final game of the set.
The match then moved to a super tie-breaker, where both teams fought fiercely, keeping the score within a 1-2 point margin. In the end, Yuki and Olivetti capitalized on an opening and clinched the match 12-10.
American pair of Rajeev Ram and Christian Harrison also entered the semifinals after defeating French duo Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul, 7-5, 6-7, 10-5 in the quarterfinals.
