In Cricket, Bangladesh defeated debutant Scotland by 16 runs in the opening match of the ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in UAE.
Set to chase a victory target of 120 runs, Scotland could manage only 103 for seven in the allotted 20 overs. Sarah Bryce was the top scorer as she remained not out on 49 runs.
Earlier, Bangladesh scored 119 for seven in the allotted 20 overs. Sobhana Mostary hit 36 while Shathi Rani scored 29 runs.
Ritu Moni was declared PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her brilliant bowling performance. Nahida Akter also also claimed her 100th T20I wicket.
It was Bangladesh women’s first victory in any T20I World Cup match in the last 10 years.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur will be leading India’s campaign, starting against New Zealand tomorrow.
