Tokyo Olympic silver medallist weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has claimed India's first gold medal in the women's 49 kilogram event at Birmingham.

Chanu lifted a total of 201 kilogram in snatch and clean and jerk category.

Bindyarani Devi Sorokhaibam won Silver medal in women's 55 Kg weightlifting category. Bindyarani lifted a total of 202 Kg in snatch and clean and jerk category.

Sanket Sargar has clinched a silver medal in the men's 55 kg category. Sargar looked on course to win the gold but two failed clean and jerk attempts spoiled his chances. 

He could lift a total of 248 kg to finish second. Gururaja Poojary got bronze medal in the men's 61 kg finals. Gururaja finished third in the standings with a total of 269 kg lift.

So far, India has won four medals in the CWG 2022. All these medals come in weightlifting.

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain defeated New Zealand's Ariane Nicholson in the light middleweight 70kg category.

In Badminton, India beat Sri Lanka 5-0 in Group A second mixed team event.

Indian men's table tennis team secured a 3-0 win over Northern Ireland.

India women's table tennis team knocked out of the Commonwealth Games after a defeat against 2-3 to Malaysia in the quarterfinals.

In Squash, Saurav Ghosal secured 11-4, 11-4, 11-6 win against Sri Lanka's Shamil Wakeel in the men's singles round of 32 event.

India defeated Wales 3-1 in their women's hockey pool A game at Birmingham.

India beat Australia in final league match of badminton mixed team event.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have congratulated winners at the Commonwealth Games 2022. 

In a tweet, Mrs Murmu said you have made India proud at the Commonwealth Games. She also extended her best wishes for many more such inspiring feats.

In his message, Prime Minister congratulated weightlifter Mirabai Chanu on winning Gold Medal. He said, the exceptional Mirabai Chanu makes India proud once again. 

Every Indian is delighted that she has won a Gold and set a new Commonwealth record at the Birmingham Games and her success inspires several Indians, especially budding athletes, he added.

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has also congratulated winners at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.
