Earlier, India took a first-innings lead of 223 runs. The Hosts were all out for 400 after resuming their innings at the overnight score of 321 for 7.
On the first day, India restricted Australia to 177 runs in their first innings. For visitors, Marnus Labuschagne was the top-scorer, with 49 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja took 5 wickets and Ashwin three wickets. Whereas for India, skipper Rohit Sharma was the highest run-getter, with 120 runs followed by Axar Patel with 84 runs.
Todd Murphy took 7 wickets for Australia in his debut match. Earlier, Australian skipper Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first.
