The final electoral roll for Gujarat has been officially published following a comprehensive Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign conducted under the supervision of the Election Commission of India. After the completion of the revision exercise, the total number of registered voters in the state now stands at 44,030,725 (4.40 crore). During the process, approximately 3,95,000 names were cancelled, with Surat district recording the highest deletions at 85,734 names.
The revision exercise was aimed at ensuring accuracy and transparency in the electoral database by removing deceased, permanently migrated, and duplicate voters while adding eligible new electors.
Special Intensive Revision (SIR) Campaign
The SIR campaign began on 27 October 2025 and continued for nearly three and a half months across Gujarat.
Claims and objections for addition or deletion of names were accepted between 19 December 2025 and 30 January 2026.
All objections were verified and disposed of by 10 February 2026.
A total of 10.69 lakh discrepancies identified under the ASD (Absent, Shifted, Dead) list were thoroughly verified during the drive.

Large-Scale Verification Exercise
Before the revision, Gujarat had 50,843,436 registered voters.
After publishing the draft roll, the number dropped significantly to 43,470,109 voters due to the identification of deceased, migrated, and duplicate entries.
Following the disposal of claims and objections, the final electoral roll increased to 44,030,725 voters, marking a net addition of 5.60 lakh voters compared to the draft list.
A total of 43,470,109 counting forms were received within the stipulated deadline and were fully digitised.

Chief Election Officer Harit Shukla thanked citizens, political parties, media, and volunteers for their cooperation in completing the revision process on schedule.
Two copies of the draft roll — one printed with photographs and one soft copy without photos — were provided to recognised political parties in each district for scrutiny. Parties have been asked to raise objections, if any, by 18 February 2026.
Ahmedabad Prepares for 2026 Civic Elections
Meanwhile, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has initiated preparations for the 2026 civic elections. Electoral rolls for all 48 wards will be printed at an estimated cost of Rs.60 lakh, with tender submissions closing on 23 February and bids opening on 25 February.
The current term of elected office-bearers ends on 9 March, and from 10 March, the corporation will function under an administrator until elections are conducted. Authorities have stated that the updated voter list — complete with photographs, names, and addresses — will be finalised in time for the 2026–27 municipal elections.
Overall, the large-scale revision exercise marks one of Gujarat’s most extensive voter verification drives, aimed at strengthening electoral integrity ahead of upcoming local body elections.
