Mamata Banerjee has won West Bengal’s Nandigram hotseat by a margin nearly 1,200 votes, according to sources. West Bengal chief minister was up against her former close aide Suvendu Adhikari, who was once her close aide and jumped boats and joined the BJP just a few months ahead of West Bengal assembly elections.

Mamata Banerjee's party Trinamool Congress too is headed for a victory in the state as it has a lead in 213 seats out of 292 seats, according to latest updates on the Election Commission website.

Poll experts had earlier said that if Mamata Banerjee’s TMC manages to hold on, it will a remarkable achievement as the party has been weakened by desertions, faced significant anti-incumbency, and appeared to be behind the BJP for much of the campaign.
