Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba have unveiled a comprehensive decade-long roadmap aimed at deepening strategic, economic, and technological cooperation between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shigeru Ishiba have unveiled a comprehensive decade-long roadmap aimed at deepening strategic, economic, and technological cooperation between the two countries.
 The two leaders made the announcement after summit talks in Tokyo yesterday.
In a social media post, Prime Minister Modi said, during the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, Prime Minister Ishiba and him reviewed the full range of bilateral ties between our nations and agreed to further strengthen the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership. 
In a joint press meet after the talks, Prime Minister Modi said, the two countries have chalked out a roadmap for the next decade which will focus on sectors like investment, innovation, environment, technology, health, mobility, people-to-people exchanges and state-prefecture partnerships.
PM Modi said, both countries have set a target of 10 trillion yen investment in India from Japan in the next 10 years.
 The two countries will also give special attention to connecting Small and Medium Enterprises and Start-ups from both countries with collaboration in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, environment, and healthcare set to feature prominently. He also urged the Japanese companies to, “Make in India, Make for the world.
The Prime Minister announced an ambitious Action Plan for Human Resource Exchange and Cooperation between two countries, setting a target of facilitating the two-way movement of more than five lakh people from different sectors between India and Japan over the next five years.
He affirmed India and Japan’s commitment to a free, open, peaceful, prosperous, and rules-based Indo-Pacific while announcing that both countries have decided to further strengthen mutual cooperation in defence industry and innovation. 
He said, both countries have the same concerns about terrorism and security with respect to defence and maritime security. 
 PM Modi welcomed the agreement between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for the Chandrayaan-5 mission under the Lunar Polar Exploration (LUPEX) programme.
He emphasized that their active participation has gone beyond the limits of the Earth and will become a symbol of mankind’s progress in space.
 The Prime Minister said, he believes Japanese technology and Indian ingenuity are a winning combination.
He asserted that just as we are working together on high-speed rail, we will also make rapid progress in ports, aviation, and shipbuilding under the Next Generation Mobility Partnership. 
Speaking on the occasion,the  Japanese Prime Minister praised India’s transformative global impact and called for greater integration of skilled Indian talent into Japan’s economy.
Emphasising shared democratic values and a free Indo-Pacific, he said, in an increasingly uncertain world, Japan and India must combine their strengths to ensure regional peace and stability.
 Later, briefing the media on PM Modi’s Japan visit, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Ishiba spent nearly two and a half hours together, during which they held delegation-level talks and witnessed the exchange of agreements.
He said, in addition to bilateral issues, the two Prime Ministers also discussed the regional and global situation, and it was clear that in the midst of considerable geopolitical flux, the ties between India and Japan remain a pillar of stability in the International system.
 The Foreign Secretary informed that both leaders exchanged the joint vision for the next decade. The 10-year strategic roadmap in economic and functional cooperation between the two sides. 
 Vikaram Misri said, the two countries have agreed to adopt a Joint Declaration on Security Cooperation, reinforcing a shared vision for a free, open, peaceful, and economically vibrant Indo-Pacific region grounded in the rule of law.
Both sides also launched an economic security initiative, which identifies five priority sectors that will receive concentrated attention from the two sides.
 These sectors are semiconductors, critical minerals, pharmaceuticals, information and communication technologies, and clean energy. Both Prime Ministers also launched the ‘Japan-India AI Initiative’, which will strengthen collaboration on large language models, data centres, and AI governance.
He informed that Prime Minister also invited PM Ishiba for the AI Impact Summit, which India is hosting in February 2026.

 On the second day of the 15th India-Japan Annual Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today interacted with members of the National Governors Association in Tokyo.
Following the talks, Prime Minister Modi and his counterpart Shigeru Ishiba departed for Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture by Shinkansen-bullet train.
 In Sendai, the two leaders will visit the Tokyo Electron factory, a major manufacturer of semiconductor production equipment. Japan is aiming to reduce its dependence on imports and build its own resilient semiconductor supply chain-an objective shared by India.
