In Jammu and Kashmir, relief and rescue operations are in full swing in cloudburst hit Chisoti village in the Kishtwar district with the Army, NDRF, SDRF, Police and local administration in position.
Two Mi-17 helicopters and one Advanced Light Helicopter have been kept ready at Jammu and Udhampur for deployment.
The flash floods triggered by a cloudburst had left 60 people dead, over 100 injured and several missing.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today visited Chisoti to assess the damage caused by the flash floods.
He interacted with locals who shared first-hand accounts of the destruction and ongoing challenges on the ground. He was briefed by a senior army officer, supervising the relief and rescue operation.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, assuring them of all possible assistance from the Centre.
The Prime Minister took stock of the situation and emphasised swift relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Union Minister Jitendra Singh also visited the affected areas in Chesoti late last evening to take stock of the situation.
Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his Independence
Day speech, expressed solidarity with those affected by recent natural disasters across the country.
