The Indian Railways has announced that long-distance trains will soon have allocated berths for women in an effort to make Indian trains safer for women. The change is designed to improve the experience of female passengers on Indian Railways' long-distance trains.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the decision, saying that Indian Railways has provided specific berths for women as well as other amenities to enhance their comfort and safety when travelling in long-distance trains.

Long-distance trains, including as the Garib Rath, Rajdhani, Duronto, and completely AC Express trains, will have six berths in sleeper class dedicated for women, according to the minister. The births will be available to all female travellers, regardless of their age.

Furthermore, even if travelling with a group of women, women travellers can book berths. Every sleeper coach will have 6-7 lower berths reserved for women, while 3AC coaches will have 4-5 lower berths reserved.

He also said that Indian Railways is making special arrangements for the security of women and all passengers. "Police and public order are state subjects under the Seventh Schedule of the Constitution of India. The Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP) and District Police have been given special instructions to provide better security to the women passengers."
