A tragic incident occurred early Friday morning in Bihar's Purnia district, where three people died on the spot and two others were seriously injured after being hit by the Vande Bharat Express train. The injured were immediately rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital in Purnia for treatment.

The accident took place near Kasba Jabanpur on the Katihar-Jogbani rail section. As per initial reports, the victims were returning home after visiting a Dussehra fair and were crossing the railway track when the Vande Bharat Express, en route from Jogbani (Araria) to Danapur (Patna), hit them at high speed. A large crowd gathered at the site soon after the accident. Upon being informed, local police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) teams arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The bodies have been taken into custody for post-mortem.

The Jogbani-Danapur Vande Bharat Express was flagged off virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 15 from Purnia, with regular operations starting on September 17. It is the first Vande Bharat train connecting the Seemanchal region with the state capital, Patna. The train departs from Jogbani at 3:25 AM, reaches Purnia at 4:50 AM, and continues through Saharsa, Khagaria, Samastipur, and Muzaffarpur before arriving at Danapur at 11:30 AM.

This is the second reported fatal accident involving the Jogbani-Danapur Vande Bharat Express. Earlier, on September 30, an elderly person was killed near the Hatiyagachhi railway crossing in Saharsa after being struck by the same train.
