The street food hub established by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) opposite the Kamatibaug near the Faculty of Fine Arts of MS University has been selected among the three clean street food hubs in the country.

Vadodara has also stood third nationally in the 'Eat Right Challenge' of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The awards were given away by FSSAI on the occasion of World Food Safety Day. Vadodara not only won third place in the 'Eat Right Challenge' nationally, it also stood first in the state.

As many as 188 municipal corporations and districts of the country were asked to participate in the challenge by the FSSAI.

Out of these, 75 were certified at the event on Tuesday in Delhi.

Vadodara not only managed to get the certification but stood third in wake of a series of activities conducted to make food safer in the city.

The activities included registering various food business operators, conducting regular drives to check food samples, inspecting hotels, restaurants, caterers and food vending establishments as well as imparting training to food business operators.

The food safety department of VMC also gave hygiene ratings to 220 hotels and restaurants, two clean street food hubs were certified, nine temples were also given certificates and five campuses were declared Eat Right Campus status.

Various awareness activities were also conducted by the civic body. An additional health officer of VMC and designated authority under the Food Safety and Standards Act, Dr Mukesh Vaidya, said that the award was a result of the recognition of the work done through these activities.

Kamatibaug figured amongst the best three with the other two being the very prominent street food hubs of Chhapan Dukan in Indore and AssiGhat in Varanasi.
