Rising edible oil prices have alerted the Vadodara district administration to take steps to stop stocking and profiteering. District Collector R.B. Barad in a meeting with oil and oilseed traders, directed them to disclose the stock of edible oil every week. The traders have also assured full cooperation to the district administration in this regard.

In the meeting held at the Dharasabha Hall of Vadodara Collectorate, Collector R.B. Barad said that the growing prices of oil-oilseeds should be rationally maintained and no one should stock or profiteer. As well as keep a fixed amount of stock and traders shall disclose the stock. In addition, its stock list is also required to be received by the district administration every week, so that the state government can also properly monitor the prices of edible oil, as instructed by the Collector.

Giving legal details about the stock to the traders, District Supply Officer SD Goklani said that under the Essential Commodities Act-1955 and Gujarat Essential Commodities Dealers (Regulation) Order 1977, the police and the district administration have been empowered to inspect the stock declared by the miller, trader, refinery and wholesaler.
