A 27-year-old PhD student from Ahmedabad, pursuing his doctoral studies in Chemistry at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT) in Surat, tragically passed away early Friday morning after suffering severe chest pain and failing to receive timely medical assistance.

The deceased, identified as Ilesh Dhanjibhai Khadayta, was a resident of the SVNIT hostel in the Ichchhanath area. According to sources at New Civil Hospital, Ilesh began experiencing intense chest pain around the early hours of Friday while in his hostel room. Alarmed by his condition, his hostel mates acted quickly and transported him on a motorcycle to a nearby private hospital.

However, upon reaching the private facility, they were informed that no doctor was available at that time. As they attempted to shift him to another hospital, Ilesh’s condition worsened, and he collapsed during the journey. He was eventually transported to New Civil Hospital using the EMRI 108 ambulance service, but was declared dead on arrival by medical staff.

Ilesh had completed his Master of Science and was enrolled in a PhD program in Chemistry at SVNIT. He belonged to a modest family — his father is a retired employee of the postal department, and he is survived by his parents and one brother.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the availability of emergency medical services near student hostels and educational institutions. No official comment has yet been made by the SVNIT administration regarding the circumstances or any follow-up action.

Authorities are expected to conduct further investigation into the incident.
