Gujarat gets new CIC, 3 information commissioners

Governor Acharya Devvrat appointed Subhashchandra Soni as the new chief information commissioner (CIC) of the state on Friday.

Soni, who served as an information commissioner until last Sept, will succeed the current CIC, Amrut Patel, whose term ends on July 29.

In addition to Soni’s appointment, three new information commissioners have been named to fill vacancies in the Gujarat Information Commission. Nikhil Bhatt, Manoj Patel and Subramaniam Iyer have been appointed. 

Soni, Bhatt, and Patel are Sachivalaya cadre officers, while Iyer is an academician.

Soni, holding a PhD and having served as an additional secretary in the Gujarat govt, brings significant experience to his new role.

Nikhil Bhatt, who recently retired as a joint secretary in the state home department, and Manoj Patel, who served as a personal assistant to former ministers Anandi Patel and Pradipsinh Jadeja, join him.

Subramaniam Iyer, previously a member of the Gujarat Subordinate Services Selection Board, completes the new appointments.
