CJI Chandrachud defends PM's Ganesh Puja visit

Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud addressed the recent controversy surrounding the Prime Minister's visit to his home for Ganpati puja, calling it "unnecessary, unwarranted, and illogical."

CJI Chandrachud said whenever the CJI or CJs meet the head of the Union or state govts, the discussions centre around the inadequacy of infrastructure for the judiciary, which faces a huge backlog of cases.

Speaking to sources, the outgoing CJI stressed that such visits are common during social events and do not compromise judicial independence.
