Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation teams find mosquitos breeding in 10,000 houses

As part of the city civic body's drive to make the city mosquito free, the health department teams conducted checks in around 1.54 lakh homes and found mosquito breeding spots at 10,661 of them.

The highest number of mosquito breeding spots, 2,655, were found from houses located in the east zone of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).

A health department statement said that breeding spots were found in 2,025 houses in the central zone, in 819 houses in the north zone, 1,409 in the south zone and 1,429 in the western zone.

In the north-west zone, the health department found mosquito breedings in 1,233 houses and 1,091 houses located in the south-west zone.

AMC statement said that 3.66 lakh spots were checked including air conditioners, flowerpots, terraces and water tanks.

The newly appointed civic chief M Thennarasan had recently asked the health department to begin a drive to make Ahmedabad city mosquito free.

Following his orders, the health department started a drive named Dry Day Thursdays. 

Under this campaign the health department teams randomly conducts checks at residential and commercial buildings across the city on Thursdays.

Ever since Thennarasan has taken charge as the new commissioner, he has been paying unannounced visits to various municipal facilities.
