The Election Commission of India has decided to revise the voter list to identify duplicate voters in Gujarat. After Bihar, Special Intensive Revision (SIR) may be started in other states as well.
It is learnt that the Election Commission will start revising the voter list in Gujarat, too.
The official announcement in this regard is likely to be communicated on Monday.
The purpose of the exercise has been to identify illegal settlements and remove illegal voters from the list. Apart from this, the voter list will be updated and duplicate voters will be removed.
Sources say that there is a possibility that a large-scale voter list revision campaign will be carried out in Gujarat after Diwali. An exercise has also been started to appoint booth level officers in all the assembly constituencies.
Apart from this, training of the authorities regarding the SIR has also begun, as per sources. Booth level officers will go door-to-door to identify the voters. New voters will also be added to the list if eligible.
Notably, Congress has alleged that more than 62 lakh voters in the state are under suspicion. In 84 seats, out of 6.09 lakh voters, 30,000 voters are ghost voters.
The ECI is likely to announce the revision of voter lists in 10-15 states, including Gujarat, at a press conference in Delhi on Monday.
